How much does registration cost?
Registration cost will range from $45 to $75 depending on the time of registration. There is a $5.50 insurance fee.
Can I get a refund?
Sorry, all registrations are non-refundable. However, you may transfer your bib number to someone else on the registration website.
Do you offer registration insurance?
Yes. Get Registration Protector for an additional $7 per registration. If you can’t attend this event for any number of covered reasons, including injury, illness, traffic accidents and more, you’ll be reimbursed for your registration cost, fees and other related costs. This charge is in addition to the cost of your registration and will be billed separately by Allianz Global Assistance. You may cancel Registration Protector within 10 days of the purchase date and receive a full refund of insurance fees paid. Limitations apply. See full Coverage Details.
Can I transfer my registration to someone else?
Yes. Registrations can be transferred through your personal account on Active.com. You can manage your registration by clicking on the link in your registration confirmation email. A $10 processing fee does apply.
Can I transfer to another wave?
Yes. You can manage your account on Active.com and transfer to another wave as long as it is not sold out. You can manage your registration by clicking on the link in your registration confirmation email. A $5 processing fee does apply.
Can you register a team?
Yes. There is no fee to create a team. We encourage teams and officially time a team with five or more to be scored in the team results. Team captains can create and manage their teams. Team Captains can also purchase tickets and send invites. Participants who join a team also get $5 off…So get a team together and share the fun!
Can I pick up someone else’s packet?
Sorry, You CAN NOT pick up someone else’s race packet. You must present valid photo ID and sign waiver in order to receive your packet.
Where is the Start, Finish and Race Festival located on Waterfront Park?
We are on the Big Four Lawn. If you are unfamiliar with Waterfront Park or coming in from out of town just look for the Big Four Railroad walking bridge. The Big Four Lawn sits right next to the bridge.
What time does the race start?
The party officially starts at 530pm with the first race going off at 6:30pm. Races will continue to go off every 15 minutes until the last race at 915pm. Party is over at 11pm.
What if it rains?
You will get WET! Also the race will continue as normal as long as it is only raining. If lightning is spotted, the race will be postponed and the waves will resume as soon as the lightning stops. If the weather does not permit the race to occur at all, the race will NOT be rescheduled due to scheduling conflicts within the park.
What do I get for my registration fee?
All participants will receive an official Waterfront Challenge race shirt, a specially designed medal upon completion of the race, a sightseeing cruise on The Belle of Louisville, access to the VIP tent with live results, the after party and more!
What makes The Waterfront Challenge different from all other obstacle races?
Because we’re bringing sexy back! You get to run on one of the most beautiful parks in the country, with a constant view of the Ohio River and Downtown Louisville. This is not a mud run but an Urban style race. We can go on about how much fun this is going to be but you are just going to have to experience it for yourself!
What is Waterfront Park?

What do I need to bring on race day?
A photo I.D., an extra change of clothes, a towel, a camera, cash for food and beer afterwards, friends and family for support, and your glow-in-the-dark costume for the costume contest and after party!
When and where do I pick up my bib?
Race Day packet pick-up will start at 5:30pm onsite.
What should I wear to race in?
Wear proper running shoes and attire that is comfortable and well suited for climbing, crawling, and jumping.
How early should I arrive?
Arriving an hour before your wave is early enough to pick up your bib, watch some other participants, and get psyched up to take The Challenge!
What will I need to do when I arrive at the course?
When you arrive, head straight for the Big Four Lawn located under the walking bridge to pick up your race bib and prepare for the start of your wave. If you have some extra time, walk around and see what our sponsors have to offer and enjoy the beautiful scenery of one of Louisville’s finest parks.
How is the race structured?
The race is divided into waves that will start every 15 minutes starting at 630pm. The last wave will start at 9:15pm. Awards will begin at 10:00pm. The party begins at 530pm and will last until 11:00PM.
I am not an athlete, am I ready for the challenge?
Absolutely! We have designed the course to be a challenge for participants of all levels of fitness. If you can’t run the whole course, stop and walk it. If you can’t safely take on an obstacle just go around. It’s all about having fun! Just be courteous to people who are running as they may be competing for the win or their own personal victory!
What if I cannot conquer an obstacle?
If you are not comfortable with any of the obstacles, it is perfectly fine to go around them. However, this will disqualify you from receiving any awards.
How will I be timed?
A timing chip will be provided in the race packet.
How old must I be to take the challenge?
All participants must be 14 years of age or older.
Will I be able to shower after the race?
We will not have showers. However, since there are no mud obstacles during the course, a pack of baby wipes should be enough to clean up. There is also a water-play area next to the Big Four Lawn that you can cool off in.
What awards will be given?
Awards will be given to the overall first, second, and third place winners for men and women. The top participants in each age group for men and women will also receive an award.
What are the age group divisions?
When will the official results be posted?
Results will be scrolling in real time in the VIP tent on two giant monitors. We will also have the results posted on the website.
The Waterfront Challenge LLC has the right to change/modify anything about the event at any time.
